Maine Football Continues Ranking with 15th Place Rhode Island

ORONO, Maine (WABI) – Maine would not be denied on its way to a dominant 35-7 victory over No. 5 Villanova.

“You have to approach every game the same way and bring the same intensity to every game as if you were playing in the Super Bowl every week,” graduate tight end Cooper Heisey said.

“They should feel a great sense of confidence and validation in what their work has done so far, so I’m very proud of the effort we’ve put in,” said Jordan Stevens, head coach.

The Black Bears stuck to their preparation and it paid off on Saturday.

“We just trust the process. All week we put a big emphasis on trying to get around the quarterback and get the quarterback’s hand. Just to be able to see that appearance on Saturday to help us get the win is great to see,” said Izaiah Henderson, graduate defensive lineman.

“My brothers came together and we just executed effectively. We remain in them. We didn’t let them have any chance or glimmer of hope,” junior defensive lineman Xavier Holmes said.

Maine has another tough test on the road against No. 15 Rhode Island.

The Black Bears will try to maintain their high level of play against the Rams.

“What we’ve been doing the first half of the season, we’ve got to continue to do as leaders, whether it’s getting together more, holding our meetings and just holding guys accountable,” senior wide receiver Montigo Moss said.

“Maine is here to stay. Maine is here to make some noise every year. It’s not a casual place. This is a tough place with brave people. We do things differently here and we love it. We embrace that,” Heisey said.

Kickoff for Kingston is Saturday at 1pm on the FloFootball website.
