Costa Rican roads and trails ready to welcome FISU student cyclists

From May 29 to June 2, San Carlos will host the FISU World University Cycling Championship with five thrilling events that can be followed live on FISU.tv.

110 athletes from 24 countries traveled to beautiful Costa Rica to compete in the 7th FISU World University Cycling Championship, which begins on May 29 (4 p.m. CET) with the Critérium.

The region

San Carlos, known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, provides the perfect setting for this exciting event. This region has a rich history of hosting various international sporting competitions, and the FISU San Carlos World University Championship 2024 will add to its legacy. From challenging bike trails to the warm hospitality of the local community, everyone involved will undoubtedly enjoy this memorable experience.

San Carlos has a humid tropical climate, which means the weather can be very hot and humid. The average temperature for a typical day at the end of May ranges from a minimum of 22°C to a maximum of 31°C.

The host

The host of the event is the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC). It is one of the five prestigious public universities in the country. The university is present on five campuses: Cartago, San José, Alajuela, Limón and San Carlos, the city of the Championship. TEC is dedicated to the teaching, research and popularization of technology and related sciences.

The Costa Rica Technological Institute hosted the FISU America Forum in 2020 and the FISU World Forum in 2022, and is now preparing to host more than 100 athletes who will compete in the 2024 FISU World University Cycling Championship in San Carlos.

The program

Three disciplines in the road racing eventstarting with the Criterium (May 29, 4 p.m. CET for the women’s race, 5 p.m. CET for the men’s race), both will run 3.5 km on the west side of Ciudad Quesada Park.
THE Individual time trial is scheduled for May 30 at 4 p.m. CET during which men will cover 19 km and women 17 km.
And finally the Road racing (May 31), start at 4 p.m. CET for men (112 km) and 4:20 p.m. CET for women (86 km), with both races starting and finishing at TEC Santa Clara.

There will be two Mountain bike disciplines: Eliminator (XCE) June 1 (4 p.m. CET) and Cross-country (XCO) on June 2 (4 p.m. CET) as the closing event of the 2024 FISU Cycling World Championships in San Carlos.
