Iverson set for first season as Legion senior director

May 28, 2024

Later this week, Pierre Post 8 will begin its season traveling to Watertown and Brookings and for the Legion senior team, will have a new manager at the helm, but still a familiar face.

River Iverson was hired last winter as the next head coach of the Legion of Eight senior team, succeeding Brian White, who resigned late last summer. Iverson is no stranger to this team, however. Including as an assistant coach last summer, Iverson has coached most of these athletes since graduating in 2020, playing his final summer for Pierre. This year’s team will once again be a younger team. Miles Doyle is the only member in his final official year with Post 8. Nolan Petersen, Grayson Hunsley and Brayden Houlette, the other three seniors will have the opportunity to play again as super seniors in 2025. For everyone else, all are juniors, sophomores. and the freshmen on this year’s team. Iverson says there’s a lot of excitement heading into the season for these young guys…

Injuries are a part of the game, but unfortunately for the 8 position, the team is already dealing with season-ending injuries, including the return of Ridge Leimbach who had an ERA and WHIP below one during the high school season …

There will be a few guys on the roster who will get their first college playing time this summer between high school ball and Legion and Iverson says he wants to see them all have a lot of confidence heading into the first games of the season…

Pierre will open the season at Watertown on Thursday and then face Brookings on Friday, both on the road. Both days of games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
