Gujarat Titans holds confirmed for IPL 2025? Social media post leaves fans excited

There has been a lot of speculation about who the franchises will retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, but not much has been disclosed when it comes to the Gujarat Titans. The 2022 champions had a tough outing in IPL 2024 as they lost Mohammed Shami who was sidelined due to injury. The other thing that haunted them was the absence of Hardik Pandya, who completed a sensational trade with Mumbai Indians. However, fans got excited after a social media post from the franchise hinted at their possible retentions for IPL 2025. Gujarat Titans posted three photos of Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan with a cryptic one-line caption. “On all opponents like a Shub-Rash,” the caption read.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants are among the IPL franchises that have submitted bids to acquire teams from The Hundred, run by the English Cricket Board, according to a report.

GMR Group, recently appointed new owner of Hampshire, and Avram Glazer, co-owner of Manchester United Football Club, also submitted proposals ahead of the ECB’s October 18 deadline for potential investors, ESPNCricinfo reported.

The ECB has opened bids for a 49% stake in each of the eight franchises, with the board retaining majority control.

“Expressions of interest could be for all eight teams, which would be whittled down to four in the next stage, which will begin in November when investors know the host counties of each Hundred franchise,” the report stated.

“After this, investors would need to narrow down their wishlist to four teams as part of the second stage, which would then narrow down to two teams from which they would need to make their final choice.” The ECB aims to finalize investors by early 2025, but is committed to a deliberate approach to avoid “underselling what it believes to be a valuable product”.

ECB President Richard Thompson also mentioned the possibility of a “hybrid” ownership model, where some teams remain under the control of the ECB while others are sold to private investors.

The report further states that although several IPL franchises showed initial interest, not all of them followed through with the bids.

“Punjab Kings has opted out, although there has been no confirmation whether five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings and capital major CVC Capital Partners, owner of Gujarat Titans, have submitted bids,” it added.

“Global sports investors INEOS, owned by Jim Ratcliffe, who owns a 27% stake in Manchester United and runs the football club’s operations wing, have also chosen not to participate in the bidding.” One of the main concerns of IPL franchises was whether they would be “happy being passive investors”.
