Dietmar Hamann has named two Premier League stars Liverpool should sign as possible replacements for Mohamed Salah. The Reds face the prospect of losing the Egypt international for nothing as his contract expires next summer.

Salah, who has been at Anfield since 2017, has yet to agree new terms along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. Given the possibility that this could be Salah’s final season in a Reds jersey, Hamann says Arsenal star Bukayo Saka would be his preferred candidate to replace the winger.

However, he also believes Jadon Sancho would be a solid alternative if he returns to form at Chelsea. The 24-year-old is currently on loan at west London after falling out of favor with Manchester United following his return from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

“If I had to choose another player to replace him, Liverpool would have to choose Bukayo Saka,” Hamann told Metro. “If Jadon Sancho can find the form he had at Borussia Dortmund, he could be an option to play on the right wing. In the short term, Liverpool also have great strikers who can fill this position.”

Liverpool also face another dilemma: Alexander-Arnold is yet to determine his long-term future on Merseyside due to interest from Real Madrid. Hamann, meanwhile, believes he could leave if the Spanish giants come knocking in the new year.

“I don’t think Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave in January but if Real Madrid come calling he will find it hard to turn them down,” he added. “More and more English people are playing abroad. You can’t blame Alexander-Arnold if he wants to leave.”

“Jude Bellingham may be moving him to the club and the fact they got Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer shows they can make a similar move with Alexander-Arnold next summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold is a Scouse Galactico. I didn’t see him.” An Englishman takes a free kick, as he has done since David Beckham.

“It is a pleasure to watch his passing, his technique and his skills. Most fans would say they paid to watch an attacker like Michael Owen, Fernando Torres or something like that. Fans are now paying to watch Alexander-Arnold play from right-back.” “
