CHICAGO — A good Samaritan is in critical condition after being shot while trying to stop a carjacking on the city’s West Side.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of North Linder. Police said a woman was approached by four men who beat her and took her 2011 Volkswagen sedan.


Police say a 20-year-old man tried to intervene when an attacker fired shots and hit him in the chest.

He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The woman was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this time.

No one is in custody. Area Five detectives are investigating.
