“No shade,” Cyrus said, “but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve actually been taken seriously at the Grammys?”

“I had a hard time understanding what the metric is, because if we want to talk about statistics and numbers, then where was I?” she continued. “And if you want to talk about impact on culture, then where was I? It’s not about arrogance. I’m proud of myself.”

At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Cyrus won Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Record of the Year for her hit song “Flowers.” Before this evening, her music had only been nominated once: best pop vocal album for “Bangerz” in 2015.
