A30 closure canceled ahead of Royal Cornwall Show

A30 closure canceled ahead of Royal Cornwall Show

National Highways has canceled plans to close the A30 ahead of the Royal Cornwall Show.

There were concerns that closing the main road for works starting on Friday evening could cause problems for people attending the show.

Highway officials said they reviewed the weekend closure and made changes to account for the volume of traffic to and from the fair.

National Highways said: “As a result, the A30 will remain open throughout the Royal Cornwall Show weekend.”

The show will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The A30 was due to close from 9:00 p.m. BST on Friday and remain closed until Monday.

Cancellation welcome

Chris Riddle, the fair’s secretary, said the closure was a “big worry” for many people and he was glad it had been reversed.

“This has caused a lot of confusion and delay,” he said.

“There are also a lot of horses, cattle and sheep moving around, especially on the last day the cattle are back.

“It would have made life even more difficult, and I think it’s going to make things a lot easier.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said a temporary 30mph speed limit along the A39 at Hals Grave would be in place as heavy traffic was expected over the three days of the show.
