McGregor issues statement after UFC 303 presser canceled

Conor ‘The Notorious’ McGregor released a statement Monday afternoon regarding the abrupt cancellation of the sold-out UFC 303 press conference in Dublin, Ireland.

The UFC announced the postponement on Sunday evening. The event was scheduled for Monday at noon Eastern Time.

In a message on his Twitter account, McGregor wrote: “In consultation with the UFC, today’s press conference has been canceled due to a series of obstacles beyond our control. I apologize to my Irish fans and those around the world for the inconvenience caused and appreciate all of your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest show of all time in the Octagon.

During his UFC 302 post-fight press conference well after midnight Saturday night, Dana White said he was “about to get on a plane right now (to Dublin).” Michael Chandler was reportedly informed that the event had been canceled just before boarding his flight.

The UFC’s announcement was made via a Twitter post Sunday evening at 11:00 p.m. ET:

“UFC303 The press conference scheduled for Monday, June 3 in Dublin, Ireland at the 3Arena has been postponed until further notice. We sincerely apologize to all fans who were planning to attend. When we have more information on a new date and time, we will share it immediately. – THANKS.”

This development gave rise to much speculation on social networks. Is McGregor injured? Is the UFC 303 fight in jeopardy?

Let’s hope not. The promotion released a killer trailer for McGregor-Chandler at the UFC 302 show.

As of Monday evening, Dana White had not addressed the issue of cancellation.

The news had no impact on betting odds. DraftKings installed Chandler as a -115 favorite against the former two-division champion who is priced -102.

BetMGM has Chandler at -115 and McGregor at -105. Caesars has the welterweight scrap as a pick (-110 either way). FanDuel has a total of 1.5 rounds (“over” -136, “minus” +108).

UFC 303 takes place on June 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
