Dubai Municipality announces phased rollout of revised sewerage tariffs over the next three years – UAE

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of services, Dubai Municipality has introduced a revised sewerage charging structure. The revised rates will be phased in over the next three years and will be applied to existing sewerage-paying customers within areas managed by Dubai Municipality. The announcement marks the first rate increase in ten years.

The new rates are aligned with the aim of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to meet the needs of the emirate’s rapidly growing population.

Dubai’s robust economic growth, coupled with significant population growth, has driven the need for continued infrastructure development across all service sectors to meet the needs of the growing number of residents and visitors. As Dubai continues to consolidate its status as a leading global hub and one of the best places in the world to live, work and visit, its population is expected to reach approximately 7.8 million by 2040.

The sewerage rates for residents and companies will be increased gradually over the next three years. The new sewer rate will be 1.5 fils/gallon beginning in early 2025, reaching 2 fils/gallon in 2026 and reaching 2.8 fils/gallon in 2027. The revised sewer rate remains well below the global average, including in cities with comparable GDP per head of the population.

The primary aim of this increase is to promote water conservation in the emirate and help promote sustainable practices, conserve water resources and create a future-proof urban infrastructure that can meet the growing needs of Dubai’s residents and visitors.
