Coronation Street fans spot Leanne Battersby mistake as they fear she is being guarded by ‘the Institute’

Coronation Street fans spot Leanne Battersby mistake as they fear she is being guarded by ‘the Institute’

Coronation Street fans have been quick to point out a problem with the latest reason for Leanne Battersby’s ‘stormy exit’, as they fear why she remains invested in ‘the Institute’.

As fans of the ITV soap know, the long-running character, played by Jane Danson, hasn’t quite been herself since being swept away by Rowan Cunliffe and ‘The Institute’ which she says, helping her to be the best version of herself and introducing ways to eliminate the negativity around her.

However, what she’s actually doing is pushing her family away, including her fiancé Nick Tilsley and her sister Toyah Habeeb, and she’s also been heard to part with large sums of money for supplements, classes and retreats .

Earlier this week, Corrie fans saw Leanne returning late from retirement. But she was quickly brought back to earth with a crash when Ken Barlow revealed the reason he was in their flat was to say goodbye to Simon Barlow.

She was horrified to discover he was leaving Weatherfield to join his father working on a yacht and blamed his family for not telling him. However, Nick explained that his phone was off, but he had told Rowan about Simon, but he failed to get the message through. She quickly stormed off and then burst into tears as she waved Simon off, with Nick and Toyah still trying to support her.

But she ran away in tears again and back at the apartment, viewers saw her talking to a mystery person on her laptop. Those watching did not see or hear who it was because they did not respond to Leanne when she told them she was lonely and wished she could be with them.

Then, during Wednesday evening’s (June 5) visit to Weatherfield, Leanne was again seen talking to her computer screen after being visited by Rowan. He explained how Toyah was causing problems at the Institute, showing him the negative posts she had written about the Institute, leaving Leanne furious.

At the bistro, Toyah received a hand-delivered letter. She is shocked to discover that the Institute is suing her for defamation and takes out an injunction. Back at the apartment, Rown encouraged Leanne to talk about Simon and what was bothering her.

Later, Nick was seen trying to make Leanne understand that Toyah was trying to protect her from a corrupt organization run by a madman. Leanne refused to listen and as Nick left she opened her laptop, smiled at the person on the screen and told them she loved them.

And Corrie fans are sure that Leanne is not talking to Rowan but rather to a photo of her son Oliver, who tragically died at the end of 2020, and that is how they believe she is encouraged to stay within the Institute. @SarahFallows82 said: “Leanne doesn’t talk to Rowan. It’ll be some sort of Oliver #Corrie wallpaper.”

@_Dan82 commented: “It’s so obvious that Leanne is talking to Oliver and not that weirdo from the institute. #Corrie.” @LibbyScott_ added: “I guess Leanne’s grief for Oliver is why she was so easily brainwashed and manipulated by a cult leader. That, and the fact that Corrie needed a reason to put Nick and Toyah together #Corrie.”

Meanwhile, some were distracted when Leanne stormed out for the umpteenth time this week and claimed she would be “working from home”. Acknowledging her work at the Bistro, @suzicarrigan asked: “How can you work from home if you work in a bar and restaurant? Do customers come to your apartment for a glass of wine? #Corrie.”

@MoMo_2309 said: “Leanne works in a restaurant. She just stormed out saying she was going to work from home. Does she have any more tables at home? #Corrie.” @UDjoking commented: “Working from home when running a restaurant. Interesting. #Corrie.” @ktlulu1985 added: “Leanne is working from home…how will she serve drinks from there! #Corrie (Yes I know the paperwork).”
