Woman charged with negligent homicide in child death

A woman is behind bars in connection with the death of a child.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an unresponsive child in the Tulip Drive area on October 27, 2024.

According to investigators, they found the child unresponsive after being left unattended in a car seat around 4:45 a.m. until 6:50 a.m. after dropping you off with a sitter.

First responders performed CPR, but the child regained consciousness.

Officers arrested and booked 59-year-old Sarah Sonnier of Opelousas for negligent homicide.
