Q: You’re involved in sports, you DJ, you help with the scoreboard, you do science projects. Why do you do so much extra?

A: The children are important to me and they need to know that they are important to me. And as important as the material is, it’s just as important to let them know that their interests matter.

Deann from Ashley Community Schools receives a $2,000 check from the Michigan Lottery. Excellence in Education Awards, sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, has provided more than $28 billion in public education since 1972.
