Filmed: Woman Tears Up 7 American Flags in Jeffco

Filmed: Woman Tears Up 7 American Flags in Jeffco

DENVER (KDVR) — A woman was caught on video vandalizing an American flag in broad daylight, then flipping the bird at the camera in defiance.

Now the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office needs help identifying him.

FOX31’s Talya Cunningham has learned it wasn’t just one flag that was vandalized: the woman allegedly tore up seven American flags during the week of June 5 and put on quite a show for the surveillance camera.

The sheriff’s office said they believe the woman used a small blade or even a wrench to tear up the flags.

In the video released Monday by the sheriff’s office, the woman walks toward the flag, well aware she is being filmed, and uses a sharp object to tear the flag. Apparently proud of her actions, she enters the recording’s field of view and curtsies to the camera.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said this woman did the same thing to seven other flags around their headquarters.

The camera also captures the woman raising her middle finger towards the camera. The sheriff’s office made a few jokes about the gesture and posted on X saying, “She used her big finger to let us know we’re #1.”

All joking aside, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said they were saddened by the incident, and it was done in poor taste because these flags have meaning. The flags were flown in honor of the fallen officers.

Although it happened on June 5, the sheriff’s office is now releasing the video in hopes that someone will recognize it. She faces a felony charge, with her actions protected by the First Amendment.

If you recognize it, you are encouraged to call the Jeffco Helpline at 303-271-5612.
