Mason Greenwood gets green light to join club that offered him ‘life-changing cash’

Mason Greenwood previously rejected significant cash advances from Juventus, but it is now claimed the Italian giants are leading the race to sign him from Manchester United.

Mason Greenwood has been given the green light to sign for Juventus – five years after they reportedly offered him life-changing cash to leave Manchester United.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at La Liga side Getafe after an internal investigation at United determined it was best for all parties to continue his career elsewhere. He has not played for his boyhood club since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

These charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service 13 months later and Greenwood returned to the professional game in Spain. He recorded 10 goals and six assists in 36 games in all competitions, attracting considerable transfer attention.

United look set to stick to their guns this summer and let the striker leave permanently. And according to Sky Sports in Italy, Juventus are leading the race to sign him.

It is claimed that Greenwood’s entourage made it clear that the Italian club was his priority in the transfer window, giving Juve the green light to make an approach. It is therefore believed that personal terms have already been agreed.

The transfer fee could be a sticking point, however, with United expecting a fee of €50m (£42m). Juventus are expected to offer an initial fee of €30m (£25m) plus bonuses.

They also need to make room for Greenwood before they can sign him, with one of Federico Chiesa or Matias Soule touted to be released. Italy international Chiesa has been linked with Roma, as has Argentinian Soule, 21, who is also attracting interest from Premier League sides Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

Juventus have admired Greenwood for a long time, since 2019 when he was just 17 years old. United journalist Andy Mitten claimed they were “prepared to offer his family potentially life-changing sums of money” to take him to Italy on the Talk of the Devils podcast. .
