Fairhaven driver caught on camera speeding 100 miles per hour

Fairhaven driver caught on camera speeding 100 miles per hour

My family and I were heading home last night after a nice dinner in downtown New Bedford. We were having a leisurely conversation as we navigated a busy street in Fairhaven.

I won’t name the street, but I can tell you that the speed limit there is generally 40 km/h, and in some places 35 km/h. It is lined with houses where people are probably used to seeing cars driving too fast.

What we saw last night, however, makes the other speeders look like amateurs. The speed I saw on this road last night was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

I have had dash cameras installed in the front and rear of both of my cars. It’s been a few years and I’ve never really found anything interesting about them, but that streak is over.

This high-speed car was expected to travel between 90 and 100 mph. I was still shaken 20 minutes later. My first thought was to call the police, but I figured at this speed, by the time I reached the cops the speeder might be in Wareham.

It’s hard to think of what could have happened on this road. If I had drifted at all beyond the yellow lines, or if the speeder had drifted to my side of the road, it would have wiped out my entire family.

When I got home, I pulled the video from the dash cam and sent it to the Fairhaven police. I thought if there had been an accident, the video might help the police understand what happened.

I can’t imagine what was going through the driver’s head.

I’m not going to say I’ve never driven at high speeds, but I’ve never driven that fast on a back road. What could be so important as to put lives at risk?
