City of Huntsville issues cancellation notice due to tornado watch

Residents are advised that Environment Canada has issued a tornado watch, warning of severe thunderstorms, which include a risk of strong winds (up to 110 km/h) and tornadoes, in areas from the northern Golden Horseshoe , in parts of central Ontario, in Algonquin and Pembroke, including Huntsville and the surrounding region. The highest risk time is from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today (Thursday June 13).

Residents are strongly advised to prepare for any forecast of severe weather and to stock up on supplies for 72 hours in the event of a power outage. Please go to Ontario.ca for more information on emergency preparedness from the Ontario government.

Residents are encouraged to follow Environment Canada and local media for weather updates.

Cancellations

  • As a precaution, the Mayor’s Bike Ridewhich was to take place this evening, is postponed to Tuesday June 18due to severe thunderstorms forecast.
  • Muskoka Heritage Place Pioneer Village and Portage Flyer Train are closed for the day due to weather conditions. however, the museum located at the admissions office remains open.
