Pakistan eliminated from T20 World Cup 2024 as USA-Ireland match canceled due to wet outfield

The USA-Ireland match was canceled on Friday, which unfortunately brought bad news for Pakistan, finalists of the last edition. This cancellation allowed Pakistan to obtain officially eliminated from the T20 World Cup series.

The wet pitch made the match between the United States and Ireland impossible, which ended in a draw, with each team taking a point with it. This brought the co-hosts’ points total to 5, which ultimately secured their place in the Super 8s.

The situation Pakistan found itself in was that even though it Could secure a victory against Ireland, their points total would have only reached 4 points. It was essential for Pakistan that the match between the United States and Ireland took place with the Irish taking victory. Unfortunately, the weather was not on their side and Babar Azam’s team was eliminated from the tournament. India maintain their lead with six points from three matches with a place assured in Super 8 in the T20 World Cup series.
