BRUCE DICKINSON on the cancellation of the show in Bucharest - "I know how to take care of my voice, but when you get sick, it's a whole different thing"

On June 3, Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson canceled his concert at the Arenale Romane in Bucharest, Romania, due to a viral infection. He released the following statement:

“I suffered from a viral infection during these last concerts. I was hoping that the two days following the concerts in the Netherlands would have been enough vocal rest, but the Budapest show was a real struggle. The crowd was fantastic, but I have a duty to the rest of the tour and a responsibility to take care of my instrument… it’s the only one I have!

“It is with a very heavy heart that I had to make the decision to cancel tomorrow’s show in Bucharest. This is not the result I was hoping for. I am seeing a throat specialist tomorrow to confirm the wisdom of my decision, but after 40 years of singing, I know when things are not going well and the voice needs to rest temporarily I am gutted for the Bucharest fans, I can only apologize and thank you for. your support and understanding.

Performing at this year’s Swedish Rock festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden on June 8, Dickinson spoke with Sveriges Radio P4 Live and addressed the cancellation and his recovery.

Dickinson: “I had a four or five day break, so I had to take a course of antibiotics for five days and take some other medications, relieve some of the swelling in my vocal cords. I had a virus about two weeks ago, and it was getting worse and worse. The last show I canceled was 17 years ago, so it was rare because I almost never cancel shows. It was obvious that I was singing through it and normally when I sing you start to get better, but it was getting worse and worse. So I said, “I have to…” There’s no space. to rest during this tour There’s a concert and there were a few days around I said: “I can take a break for five days, go see the doctor, do what he tells me. shut up for five days…” Just do whatever you do (to recover, I know how to do it). take care of my voice, but when you get sick, it’s a completely different matter.

“The surf guitar in the intro – the Dick Dale track – that’s me!” » says Dickinson of ‘Resurrection Men’, sandwiched between dates on his first hugely acclaimed solo European tour in two decades.

“We were just playing around with the tremolo setting, we recorded the chords and I was like, ‘Okay, this is pretty cool!’ It was like, “What if Quentin Tarantino made a metal record?” Then it goes to a different place, we get a little heavy, and we did this whole middle section and it was like, “Were you just channeling Geezer Butler in another life?” That was the beginning of the Sabbath – behind the wall of sleep. Just: ‘Oh my god, it’s heavy!’
