Israel announces ‘tactical pause’ in Rafah to authorize aid

The Israeli military has announced what it calls a tactical pause in fighting along key Rafah roads. It was scheduled to begin Sunday morning, and will last 11 hours each day, until further notice. The army says this is aimed at allowing aid trucks to enter the enclave via the Karem Abu Salem crossing. The crossing has faced a bottleneck since Israeli ground troops entered Rafah in early May. James Elder is the spokesperson for UNICEF – he is currently in Rafah, Gaza, and says any break in bombing is good news for the people of Gaza – however, a safe environment alongside distribution is also vital.
