NEW DELHI: Remember Steve Smith’s ‘brain fade’ moment during a Test against India?

It was on day 4 of the 2nd Test at Bengaluru in the 2017 Test series that Smith was trapped in front by Indian seamer Umesh Yadav.
T20 WORLD CUP: SCHEDULE | POINTS TABLESmith, who at the time was the Australian captain and well-versed in the laws of the DRS system, was clearly aware that the only person he could turn to for advice was the non-striker (Peter Handscomb), but at the everyone’s surprise, he chose to seek the wisdom of his comrades in the locker room.

The then Indian captain Virat Kohli was clearly furious and when he intervened, umpire Nigel Llong had to send Smith off the field.

An almost similar incident occurred during the T20 World Cup Group D match between Bangladesh and Nepal at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent.

The first ball of the 14th over by Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane hit Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib on the pads as he looked to sweep as the ball dipped well and slipped under the bat before hitting his back thigh. Once there, Sakib was already walking away, before reviewing.

But now a video is circulating that Bangladeshi Jaker Ali, who was not a striker, had waved to the dressing room before asking for a review. Moreover, even the allotted 15 seconds had elapsed when on-field umpire Ahsan Raza of Pakistan signaled the third umpire’s decision.

The ball tracer showed he had spun just enough to go past off stump and Sakib was adjudged not out.

Nepal received justice on the next ball when Sakib was bowled perfectly by the misplayed Lamichhane, while bowling for the leg break, leaving a huge gap between the bat and the pad through which the ball went crashing into the stumps.

But Bangladesh went on to win by 21 runs to secure a place in the Super Eights.
