The creator of Scavengers Reign confirms the show’s early cancellation on Netflix

Created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner, Scavengers rule is an adult animated series about a crew that crash-lands on a strange and beautiful, but inherently dangerous planet. While stranded there, they take measures to survive and find each other. But within the elements of the alien wilderness, they discover both the stunning, vibrant mysteries the world has to offer and the dangerous, malevolent forces of nature.

The series first premiered on Max in 2023 before being canceled and moving to Netflix, where the team hoped to find a renewal opportunity. However, after many months on Netflix, the streamer has finally decided to pull the plug. These days, switching to Netflix in hopes of renewal is a precarious move: Netflix can barely keep many of its own shows on the air for more than a season, let alone anyone else’s.

“From now on Scavengers rule will not be renewed for a second season,” creator Joseph Bennett wrote on his account Instagram. “I just wanted to let everyone know right away because I really love our fanbase. They’ve been such champions for the show and I don’t want to let anyone down.”

He further explained that the team has been working hard behind the scenes to fight for their show. Not just for a season 2 renewal, but to make it all the way. “We’ve had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this show made, starting in 2016 with the Scavengers short film until the release of the first season last year,” he wrote.

There was still so much story to be told. Bennett wants fans to know that, and he even showed off a teaser the team created for Season 2. “But this is not the end,” he concluded. “There’s more story to tell, we’re ready to make another season and we’ve produced a teaser in-house at Green Street for what would be in the second season.” Watch the teaser below:

Personally, I am deeply saddened by the cancellation. I rooted for it Scavengers rule since I first saw it on Netflix earlier this year. There’s something incredibly unique about it. The story is compelling and the animation is beautiful, but what made the show so special was its use of atmosphere; you never quite knew which creative, quirky denizen of this unforgiving alien world would emerge next. Furthermore, Nicolas Snyder’s score was masterful.

Season 1 of Scavengers rule still streaming on Netflix.
