UFC boss Dana White has provided an update on Conor McGregor’s future following the cancellation of his comeback fight.

McGregor was scheduled to return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but an injury forced him out of the fight. The Irishman hasn’t fought since breaking his leg almost three years ago and will likely have to wait until August or September for his postponed fight against Chandler.

White seemed unsure when Jim Rome asked him about McGregor’s next steps: “That’s a great question, Conor will be 36 in July. He’s got a lot of money. I never think guys like that, Jon Jones, who knows, maybe he’ll fight again, maybe he won’t, Conor McGregor, maybe he’ll fight again, maybe he won’t will not do.

“You never know with some of the guys who reach that level. You never know if you’re ever going to see them again.” McGregor hasn’t won a fight in more than four years and was looking to secure another world title shot with a victory against Chandler. The cancellation of his return fight marks the first time McGregor has pulled out of a fight in the UFC.

“The other problem as you get older is that you get injured a lot more easily, you get hurt a lot more easily. There are more injuries than when you were younger, and you’re less willing to step in with an injury that when you were young and hungry and broke, the Jon Joneses, the Conor McGregors, those guys, I’m never very optimistic like that,” White added.

White denied the rumor that McGregor was not injured and was instead demanding more money for his comeback fight. “I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again, Conor McGregor has never done this,” White said. “Conor McGregor never leads a fight and tries to renegotiate his contract or get more money.

“He’s never done anything even remotely close to that. He’s as solid as it gets when it comes to being a business partner. Conor McGregor is injured right now. It’s absolutely real. No, he never did anything like that.” Chandler is expected to wait for McGregor to heal from his injury instead of fighting another opponent in the coming months.
