Who will make such a mistake?

Remakes have been disastrously successful in the film industry in the post-pandemic OTT era. No one is willing to waste their time watching a movie whose original is better and easily available on OTT in their preferred language.

The “remake” label for any film often sets a negative tone from the start, which negatively impacts audience reception.

There is now talk of Bollywood considering a remake of Vijay Sethupathi’s recent hit Maharaja. While Maharaja is undoubtedly an exciting film, its magic and impact might not translate effectively into Hindi, especially under the guidance of Bollywood directors.

Despite being released only in Tamil and Telugu, Maharaja has captured the interest of North Indian audiences who watch its subtitled Tamil version in cinemas.

The film will soon be available on subtitled OTT platforms, widening its reach among Hindi-speaking viewers already influenced by its positive reception in the south. They are waiting to watch it as soon as it releases on OTT.

We will soon see how remakes will fail again with Sarfira and Khel Khel Mein both starring Akshay Kumar.

So there is no point in remaking Maharaja in Bollywood. That would be a mistake.
