Why did you choose to get involved in the Cities Climate Action Summit this year?

Climate action and accelerating the transition to carbon neutrality are among Signify’s priorities. We wanted to be part of the conversation at London Climate Action Week and demonstrate not only how we, as a business, are moving towards net zero emissions by 2040, but also how we can – through our systems and services. lighting – helping cities, businesses and citizens. to achieve the same result by switching to connected LED lighting.

What will you show/bring/demonstrate at this year’s Summit?

We are highlighting a revolutionary solution available here and now that can enable cities to become national leaders in sustainable development. A quick and easy solution that is already everywhere, but which many people have never thought of and that’s the lighting. Our solutions offer cities a fast and efficient way to achieve their carbon neutrality goals. As a one-stop shop with a range of lighting solutions for streets, sports facilities, schools, hospitals, buildings and more, we can help cities easily achieve their sustainability goals.

What do you hope to learn from this year’s Summit?

Engage with city decision-makers and learn about the challenges cities face when taking action to reduce emissions. To explain how simple it is to replace existing lighting with connected LEDs – and better understand how we can help them get there.

What bold steps should cities take to accelerate climate action and what success stories have you seen?

Cities can start by switching their entire area’s lighting from conventional lighting to connected LEDs. It delivers savings in emissions and energy costs from day one and is quick and easy to implement, minimizing disruption. Given that lighting accounts for up to 40 percent of total electricity consumption in a typical city across the board, this is a good place to start. A recent project in Milton Keynes involved replacing around 20,000 conventional street lights with LED lighting with controls, saving £2 million in energy costs per year. Additionally, the long lifespan of LEDs also reduces maintenance requirements, further reducing emissions generated by servicing vehicles.
