Bubba Wallace divides NASCAR fans with June 17 message

Bubba Wallace divides NASCAR fans with June 17 message

Yesterday was June 16th. Five years ago, you would never have known this. But now it’s a federal holiday.

I don’t pretend to know the ins and outs of how this works, but it’s still a little crazy to me. We just… made something a federal holiday. Hilarious. I guess that’s how things become a vacation. They don’t appear out of nowhere. Someone needs to declare them a federal holiday, so here we are.

Either way, that’s not the point. Bubba Wallace – by far the most polarizing driver in NASCAR – rushed to send a Juneteenth message to all of his social media followers on every platform, and lit up the internet like the 4th of July (hey, another day federal holiday!).

And when the biggest #content machine in sports produces #content like this, my antenna goes up and I write about it. So, go ahead:

NASCAR Twitter had a blast with Bubba Wallace

Look, I actually don’t see much harm in it. I’ve seen worse. And again, the whole Juneteenth thing is so new/weird that I won’t even pretend to know if it’s true or not. I don’t care, frankly.

In all honesty, I think Bubba overcame the fence pretty well here.

Seeing faces on the circuit from ALL walks of life is something I’m proud to play a small part in. That’s a solid thing to support, isn’t it? I mean, we all want NASCAR to grow. Hell, my job depends on it.

The more you get into NASCAR, the more you read stuff like this – and the award-winning Monday Morning Pit-Stop – which means I get paid more.

Well, that’s not technically true…yet. Let’s hope though. God knows I could use it in this economy (thanks, Joe!).

Regardless, Bubba’s tweet obviously divided the NASCAR nation, which was a given. Most seemed to agree, but there were a few gems in the comments:

The latter made me spit out my coffee. Now that’s funny. Toyotathon the ads live in my head all year round. For those interested, it usually starts around November and continues into the new year. I can not wait !

Regardless, these are just a few hand-picked comments from the thousands under Bubba’s tweet. It’s gone viral, which means opinions are everywhere.

Most seem to like it, others can’t get over the Dega noose incident – which I understand, even if it was more of a woke NASCAR issue – and some just wanted to chat of the Toyotathon.
