Justin Timberlake Breaks Silence at Chicago Concert After DWI Arrest: ‘It’s Been a Rough Week’

CHICAGO– Justin Timberlake returned to the stage Friday night for his first concert since his arrest and drunk driving charge in Sag Harbor, New York, on Tuesday.

“It’s been a tough week, but here you are and I am, and nothing can change this moment right now,” Timberlake told a cheering crowd at Chicago’s United Center. “I know sometimes I’m hard to love but you continue to love me and I love you back.”

Timberlake will take the stage again Saturday for a second night of the “Forget Tomorrow” world tour in Chicago.

Sag Harbor police said Timberlake was observed “driving his vehicle while intoxicated” around 12:37 a.m. Tuesday morning after visiting a restaurant and bar at a local hotel. He was driving a BMW 2025 when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and stay in his lane of travel, police said.

Timberlake told police he “had a martini and followed my friends home,” according to court records.

A Sag Harbor Village police officer described him as “unable to divide his attention,” adding that “he had slowed speech, was unsteady and performed poorly on all sobriety tests.” standardized in the field.

Timberlake rejected a chemical test three times. He was placed under arrest and held overnight for arraignment, police said. He was released without bail and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 26.

CNN has reached out to Timberlake’s representatives for comment.

After this weekend’s concerts, Timberlake is scheduled to return to New York with his tour performance at Madison Square Garden on June 25 and 26, before heading to TD Garden in Boston. Concerts will take place in several countries, then the world tour will return to the United States and end in Missouri in December.
