A man has been banned from driving after drink-driving at more than 100mph on the M4.

At around 01:15 BST on May 28, police in an unmarked vehicle followed Christopher Chitima on the westbound carriageway, near junction 15 for Swindon. He was stopped near exit 16 and given a breathalyzer test, exceeding the legal limit.

At a hearing last Wednesday, Chitima, of Broad Walk, Knowle, Bristol, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was sentenced to a 40-month disqualification.

The 31-year-old was also fined £384 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154 as well as court costs of £85, police said.

‘No excuses’

PC Tom Webster, of Wiltshire Police, said: “These are incredibly dangerous and reckless speeds to drive on any occasion, let alone when you have been drinking.

“There is simply no excuse for Chitima’s actions and he now faces a long period off the road.”

“Our Roads Policing Unit will continue to target and crack down on drink and drug drivers on our roads, as we know this can and does lead to fatal collisions.”
