Ahmed Khan reveals Sridevi bribed Mr India’s children to teach him break dancing: ‘gave us ice cream’

Anil Kapoor and Sridevi starrer Mr India is considered one of the cult classic films. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, the film is still very popular among the general public. But recently, filmmaker and choreographer Ahmed Khan, who worked as a child artist in the film, revealed that Sridevi used to bribe children so that they could teach her break dancing.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Ahmed Khan recalled his days on the sets of Mr. India and said, “We were shooting the hospital scene after the bomb blast when a character dies, it was a serious scene. During this shoot, she took us into one of the doctor’s rooms and gave us ice cream. She told us: ‘I’m not giving this to you because I like you, you have to teach me how to break dance.’ Then we taught him some moves. That’s where our friendship began.”

He further added saying that Sridevi was reserved in nature. “Sridevi was reserved, as everyone knows. As a child actress, I observed that she was reserved off-camera, but once the camera started rolling, she would become Seema, her character in the film, and come out as soon as the director said to cut. He was like Michael Jackson, who spoke softly but exploded on stage. We would think, “How did she do that?” She was mahaan (great). At first she was not friendly to us, but eventually she became very friendly,” he was quoted as saying.

Mr. India was released in 1987. Sridevi’s performance, especially in the song “Hawa Hawai”, became iconic.

Ahmed Khan is currently busy shooting for Welcome To The Jungle. It will star Akshay Kumar Paresh Rawal, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Suniel Shetty, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor.

Last year, when the makers dropped the teaser ad of the film, it took the country by storm. The actors were seen singing a revamped and peppy version of the title song from Welcome, but with a twist.
