One dead, one injured in crash involving wrong-way driver in southeast Allen County Wednesday

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – One person is dead and another is injured after a crash in southeast Allen County Wednesday evening.

According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 6:15 p.m. on southbound US 27, north of Flatrock Road.

Preliminary investigation shows a pickup truck was traveling northbound on US 27 southbound before striking a pickup truck traveling southbound on US 27 southbound. A southbound semi-truck then struck both pickup trucks.

Authorities say the northbound pickup truck caught fire as a result of the crash.

The driver of the northbound pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the southbound pickup was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the southbound semi-truck was uninjured.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says authorities are working to open the northbound lanes of US 27 as soon as possible. The southbound US 27 lanes are expected to be closed for several hours.

The crash is still under investigation.
