Speaking in an interview with PC Gamer ahead of the release of Ancient Ringexpansion Shadow of the Erdtreethe president of FromSoftware was asked to comment on the popular Seamless Co-op mod.

If you’re unfamiliar, Seamless Co-op lets players party with their friends in a continuous multiplayer session and offers a different experience when exploring the lands in between.

While Ancient Ring offers a cooperative system, it is quite limited and does not allow you to constantly play with friends.

According to Miyazaki, he is not against players using the mod in their adventures and explained that when designing the game’s summoning mechanic, he wanted it to be more casual.

“It’s definitely not something we actively oppose or want to downplay, because we want to experience the whole match together,” Miyazaki said. “As far as where we were with Ancient Ring, it was just about wanting that more casual, laid-back style: come on, beat a boss, give up. This doesn’t impose any technical restrictions on the player, it just allows them to concentrate and move on, so to speak. »

Miyazaki also revealed that FromSoftware might consider changing its approach to co-op with future titles, given the mod’s popularity.

“That doesn’t mean we won’t consider other ways to play, like you and your friend, from start to finish, in full cooperation – that doesn’t mean we won’t consider such ideas in our future games.”
