Dr. Disrespect finally confirms the reason for his lifetime ban from Twitch and admits to messages with a minor that were "in the direction of being inappropriate."

Guy Beahm, better known as streamer Dr Disrespect, has confirmed that his 2020 lifetime ban from Twitch was the result of texts between him and a minor that, he admits, “leaned too far in the direction of being inappropriate “.

Beahm’s statement, posted on Twitter, comes just a day after he was ousted from Midnight Society, the game development studio he co-founded in 2021. He said the decision was made “collectively” and that he agreed to do it because he didn’t do it. I don’t want to “jeopardize the culture we have carefully crafted.”

His removal from the studio came just days after former Twitch employee Cody Conners claimed that Beahm’s ban, the reason for which had never previously been revealed, was the result of “sexting on a minor” via Twitch’s Whispers messaging system. In his initial response, Beahm did not directly deny the claim, but instead insisted that he “did nothing wrong”, and offered as proof the fact that he had been paid by Twitch as part of a settlement.

He has now confirmed that interactions with a minor led to his ban, although he disputes the exact nature of the messages.

“Were there any Twitch Whisper messages with a minor in 2017? The answer is yes,” Beahm tweeted. “Was there any real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely no. They were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too far in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.

“Nothing illegal happened, no photos were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual. I went through a lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute with Twitch and this matter was resolved through a settlement. Let me be clear, it was “There has been no criminal prosecution against me and no criminal charges have ever been filed against me.”

Beahm said he was previously unable to comment on the matter, but is now free to do so due to information already shared by two former Twitch employees. He made no mention of the age of the person he corresponded with in his statement, nor did he indicate whether he was aware of that age at the time the incident occurred, but stated that he accepted “moral” responsibility for the incident, and that “It should never have happened.” He also denied allegations that he intentionally preyed on minors.

“I’m not a fucking predator or a pedophile,” Beahm wrote. “Are you kidding me? Anyone who really knows me knows where I stand on this kind of thing with these kinds of people.”

Beahm also insisted he wouldn’t be leaving permanently: “I’m not the same guy who made that mistake all those years ago. I’m taking an extended vacation with my family as mentioned in the stream and I come back with a heavy burden.” the weight of my shoulders.”

Regardless, it seems clear that Beahm will not be returning to Midnight Society in any capacity. Shortly after releasing his statement, Midnight Society co-founder and studio head Robert Bowling tweeted: “If you send an inappropriate message to a minor, I can’t work with you. Period.”

THE BAN OF TWITCH

Hello, I would like to make a brief statement.

Let’s stop this fucking bullshit, as you know there is no filter with me. I have always been frank and honest with you about anything I can be frank about, and I am always willing to accept responsibility…that is why I am here now.

First and foremost, I would like to apologize to everyone in my community as well as my loved ones, my team, and everyone at Midnight Society Game Studio.

Many people remained in the dark about what happened yesterday between Midnight Company and me, and we collectively made the painful decision to have me resign. Our team is made up of incredibly talented and capable people, who have great professional ambitions and families, and I would never want to jeopardize the culture we have carefully crafted.

Everyone wanted to know why I was banned from Twitch, but for reasons beyond my control, I haven’t been allowed to say anything for the past few years. Now that two former Twitch employees have publicly disclosed the accusations, I can now tell you my side of the story regarding the ban.

Were there any whisper messages on Twitch with anyone in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages? The answer is absolutely no. They were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much toward the inappropriate side, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no photos were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual. I went through a lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute with Twitch and that matter was resolved through a settlement. To be clear, this was not a criminal case against me and no criminal charges were ever filed against me.

Now, from a moral point of view, I will absolutely take responsibility for this. I should never have had these conversations in the first place. It’s for me. It’s up to me as an adult, husband and father. This should never have happened. I understand. I’m not perfect and I will own my shit. It was stupid.

Now with all that said, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen all the remarks and labels being thrown around so vaguely. Social media is a destruction zone. I’m not a fucking predator or a pedophile. Are you kidding me? Anyone who really knows me knows where I stand on these things with these kinds of people. Damn that. This is another level of disgust that I hate to even hear about. Don’t call me the worst of the worst with your exaggerations. Get the hell out of here with this shit.

But I think I’ve said what I needed to say regarding the ban itself. That’s it. This is why Twitch made the decision in 2020.

To my team, to my community, to the friends in the industry who have supported me, I apologize, I wish I could have said all of this sooner. You have always shown me and my family your love and support throughout the years. We love you like you can’t imagine. I have the fucking best community and circle. If any of this made you uncomfortable, I understand. You no longer have to support me but just know that you have always been greatly appreciated.

But believe me when I say this…to all my haters who live and breathe social media with no real life experience, I don’t care about you.

Finally, if you’re uncomfortable with this whole statement and think I’m a piece of shit, that’s okay. But I’m not going anywhere. I’m not the same guy who made that mistake all those years ago.
