Medline Announces Expansion of Illinois Testing Lab

Medline recently expanded its product testing and development laboratory in Mundelein, Illinois, tripling the size of the facility to 74,000 square feet and significantly expanding the company’s ability to test a variety of products, of ingredients and solutions efficiently and comprehensively.

The $27 million expansion project “supports our continued growth,” says Lara Simmons, Medline’s chief quality officer. “Our core mission is to provide safe, effective, high-quality products that provide value to our customers. »

The expanded laboratory includes improved mechanical systems and environmental controls, as well as increased laboratory space and capabilities, including design verification, chemistry, microbiology, expiration, calibration and formulation.

The facility and operations are ISO 17025 certified and regularly audited by the FDA, meeting the highest standards for safety, quality and impartial reporting. The laboratory now has more than 140 employees, including engineers, biologists, chemists, formulation scientists and technicians.

“People can be confident that we have solid policies and procedures in place and that we meet all standards and training requirements,” Simmons said.

“Our number one priority is product quality,” says Michael Turturro, Ph.D., director of product development at Medline. According to him, this expansion will allow the laboratory to test 10,000 to 12,000 samples per month.

Through internal testing, “we can have confidence in the performance of our products and have assurance that our products meet or exceed standards,” Simmons said.
This is especially important with increasing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory requirements.

“Our goal is continuous improvement; improve our products and incorporate customer feedback,” says Simmons.
