Every time the weekend rolls around, this is how I try to be:

But as I peacefully enjoy my morning coffee, my mother’s vacuum cleaner comes to life, completely ruining the mood.

It’s 2024, folks, right? I have already quieter options for those noisy offenders?!

Here’s a roundup of 6 extremely loud devices that are in desperate need of a silent mode as of yesterday.

1. Leaf blowers

It’s a wonderful Saturday morning, the birds are chirping and a gentle breeze is rustling in the trees. Suddenly, someone decides it’s a good time to blow some leaves, and it sounds like a hurricane on steroids. Why are they always so loud? Is there a secret competition for the loudest leaf blower noise? If so, congratulations, you’re all winners.

2. Vacuum cleaners

Because nothing says “hello” like the thunderous roar of a vacuum cleaner! Sure, they keep our homes spotless, but at what cost to our eardrums? A quiet mode would be a game changer for those of us who value both clean floors and our mental health.

3. Blenders

Morning smoothies are a great way to start the day – unless you’re blending at 6 a.m. and waking up the whole house. The roar of the blender is enough to tempt you into skipping breakfast altogether. A quiet blender would make morning nutrition much less jarring.

4. Hair dryer

Drying your hair after a shower shouldn’t feel like there’s a jet engine next to your ears. Hair dryers are notorious for their loud, high-pitched whine, making it almost impossible to hear anything else. It’s high time we live in a world where you can dry your hair and spill the tea have a conversation at the same time!

5. Stovetop Pressure Cookers

Who else is afraid of these things? 🙋‍♀️

Pressure cookers are a staple in many kitchens and can certainly prepare delicious meals quickly. But when that steam release happens, it’s like a freight train is passing through your kitchen. Luckily, electric pressure cookers offer quieter steam output, making cooking a much more zen (and less terrifying) experience.

6. Data centers

Now let’s talk about something a little different but just as noisy: data centers. A recent report indicates that the data center market in Malaysia is growing rapidly and is expected to reach a value of $2.9 billion by 2028.

This growth is fueled by increasing data consumption, increasing Internet users, and the adoption of cloud computing services by companies like Google, AWS, and Microsoft.

As Malaysia prepares to become a major data center in Southeast Asia, these centers are becoming more and more common. But what exactly are data centers and why are they so noisy?

Data centers are facilities used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems.

They require a lot of cooling to prevent the servers from overheating, which is where the noise comes from.

The constant hum of cooling systems and the whir of thousands of servers working around the clock can be quite loud.

Despite their noise, data centers are essential to our digital lives.

They store and process vast amounts of data that we rely on daily, from social media to online banking and everything in between.

Promoting renewable energy and more efficient cooling systems is essential. Malaysia aims to produce 31% of its energy from renewable sources by 2025, which could help alleviate some of the noise and environmental impact. With investments in better infrastructure and innovative technologies, quieter, more sustainable data centers are on the horizon.

In conclusion, we still have to wait patiently for technology to catch up and give us quieter versions of these noisy essentials.

The best we can do for now is just invest in some good noise-cancelling headphones and try not to strangle anyone in the meantime.
