Zilis’ bio on X (formerly Twitter) reveals that she is interested in artificial intelligence, biological intelligence, and “everything between and beyond.” In 2011, she joined the emerging business project Bloomberg Beta as a founding member. According to the Washington Post, Zilis was on the board of directors of OpenAI, the well-known AI research organization which Musk co-founded. She would have left the board in 2023, according to the New York Post.

In 2021, Zilis spoke at the Canadian Undergraduate AI Conference and said she had spent the last decade focusing on watch AI develop “in the best possible way,” according to Business Insider. She is an executive at Neuralink, which aimed to solve brain and spine problems. She says, “AI is going to be one of the fundamentally transformative technologies that humanity creates.”

Zilis grew up in Canada and moved to the United States to attend Yale University. She was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in venture capital in 2015, serving on the Bloomberg Beta investment team.

According to the Washington Post, she joined OpenAI as an advisor in 2016 and later became a board member. She also worked at Tesla for two years, where she focused on AI-focused projects. It was through these projects that she met Musk.

Zilis is not shy about showing support for Musk on X, even once changing his timeline on the platform to a reverse chronological view, which Musk has advocated.
