Lombardi Trophies Stop in Jefferson City Amid Chiefs-Royals Stadium Saga

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Lombardi Trophies made a stop in Jefferson City Thursday afternoon. Gov. Mike Parson and many Chiefs fans took photos with the Lombardi trophies at the Missouri State Capitol.

The arrival of the Kansas City team comes as the border war between Missouri and Kansas escalates. In recent weeks, the Sunflower State approved a plan to make it more attractive for the Chiefs and Royals to move across the border to Kansas.

The legislation, signed by Gov. Laura Kelly, authorizes the issuance of state bonds to help finance new facilities for both Kansas teams. In total, it could help finance up to 70 percent of the cost of a new stadium for one or both teams.

On Thursday, Governor Parson commented on the ongoing stadium saga.

“This is about competition, this is a business deal and we’re going to make sure we get the best business deal we can to make sure that Arrowhead stays Arrowhead here in the state of Missouri and that the Royals continue to live here in Missouri,” he said. “Look, I can’t blame Kansas for trying what they’re trying, you know. If I was probably sitting there I’d be doing the same thing, but at the end of the day we’ll be competitive. »

The Chiefs’ current lease runs through 2031, so Gov. Parson said the state of Missouri has time to come up with a plan to keep the reigning Super Bowl champions in the Show-Me State.

“We will be meeting with people in the Kansas City area to try to do what we can from a state perspective to put something together,” he said.
