Should the Cleveland Cavaliers consider reuniting with Kevin Love?

It appears the Cleveland Cavaliers are set to return with the top four next season. A lineup of Garland of Darius, Donovan Mitchell, Evan MobleyAnd Jarrett Allen can easily be among the top four teams in the Eastern Conference and make a deep playoff run.

With the starting lineup set, the bench needs to be shaken up as a priority this offseason. Fortunately, a familiar name on the free agent market could be an option.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday morning that Kevin Love declined his player option and would become a free agent in July. Would it make sense for Cleveland to try to sign the longtime Cavaliers forward?

Yes, Love would be an upgrade to the Cavaliers bench.

At this point in his career, Love is a depth player and a veteran off the bench, something the Cavaliers could benefit from. He averaged 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc in 16.8 minutes per game last season.

There’s certainly room for that kind of production in Cleveland’s rotation. The Cavs ranked 17th in rebounds per game last season (43.8 per game), and they currently lack a big guy off the bench who can play power forward or center. (Georges Niang is the closest we’ve got to that level right now.)

But would Love really want to return to the Cavs? Wojnarowski indicated in his report that he and Miami are “excited to negotiate a new contract” once free agency begins.

Well, Love left the door open with some comments he made earlier last season when he returned to Cleveland as a member of the Heat in December.

“I don’t rule out that possibility,” Love said. “I have very good relationships there and people I like. I’m not done with Cleveland. I’m totally open to the idea of coming back and retiring there. »

If Love wants to come back, there is a spot for him on the Cavaliers.
