OU baseball coach Skip Johnson remains in Norman.

University of Oklahoma Athletic Director Joe Castiglione said they have agreed to a contract extension with Coach Johnson through 2029, subject to approval by the Board of Regents.

“Yesterday, I met with Coach Skip Johnson for his annual performance review and planning for the upcoming year. We reflected on our baseball team’s extremely successful 2024 season that culminated in our program’s first Big 12 regular season championship and hosting an NCAA Regional Championship for the first time since 2010. The work that Coach Johnson and his staff have done has been nothing short of remarkable. I am thrilled to announce that, pending approval by the Board of Regents, we are extending our relationship and investment in Coach Johnson and our baseball program by agreeing to a new contract that will run through the 2029 season. He is deserving, and we look forward to more great things on the horizon under Skip’s leadership,” Castiglione said.

Johnson was named the 2024 Central Region Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday.

He coached the Sooners for seven seasons, leading them to the Men’s College World Series final in 2022.

Johnson was linked to the vacant coaching position at Texas A&M after their coach left for the Longhorns following the 2024 Men’s College World Series final.
