Biden and Trump share Easter messages in very different tones

US Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump both posted messages online on Sunday wishing people a happy Easter, although their messages differed somewhat in tone.

Mr Biden’s message, written on Twitter/X, was short and simple: “To all those gathering in churches and homes around the world today: Happy Easter. God bless and keep you.”

In his own message, posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Mr Trump also wished everyone a “Happy Easter” while attacking those seeking to “put him in jail”.

In a lengthy message posted Sunday afternoon, and as is often the case, entirely in all caps, the former president took aim at some of his usual suspects, including Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith and Georgia attorney Fani Willis.

“Happy Easter to all, including the crooked and corrupt prosecutors and judges who are doing everything possible to interfere with the 2024 presidential election and put me in jail,” he wrote.

“INCLUDING THOSE MANY PEOPLE WHOM I COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY DESPARE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO DESTROY AMERICA, A NOW FAILING NATION. »

“HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!”

Mr. Trump called Mr. Smith “deranged” and said Ms. Willis’s case against him was “illegal,” another of his favorite refrains.

The statement comes as Republicans, led by the former president, attacked Mr Biden after he issued a statement recognising Transgender Day of Visibility because it fell on Easter Sunday.

Created by Rachel Crandall, a Michigan-based transgender activist, in 2009, International Transgender Day of Visibility (often shortened to Trans Day of Visibility) falls on March 31 each year – Easter Sunday in 2024.

President Biden marked the advancement of transgender rights with a statement recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility on Friday, sparking anger from the far right.

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate the joy, strength and sheer courage of some of the bravest people I know,” he wrote on Twitter/X.

“Today, we are showing millions of transgender and nonbinary Americans that we see them, that they belong, and that they should be treated with dignity and respect.”
