In Fort Worth, a litter of abandoned puppies was rescued by police officers from the heat of a 100-degree day.

Left by their previous owner locked in a cage without water, they were fortunate to be found by a good Samaritan who called authorities. Tarrant County Police and Animal Control arrived to take charge of the puppies and administer fluids.

Police noted that the parking lot where the puppies were found did not have the security camera coverage needed to determine the identity of the pathological owner who left them there.

“The puppies that were rescued from a carrier in 100-degree heat by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office are doing much better,” the department shared on Facebook, along with a photo of Officer Haley Drew smiling with her arms overloaded with furballs.

The puppies are currently recovering at the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center, according to another post, and will be ready for adoption, they believe, in a week.

Officer Drew’s colleague on scene, Collin Stephenson, has already expressed interest in adopting one.

The Silcox Center believes the puppies are some sort of shepherd mix and named each one after a popular chip brand, including Frito, Dorito, Ruffles, Cheeto, Lays, Pringle and Itz.
