2 people killed in crash in Gratiot Co

GRATIOT CO., MI (WNEM) – Two people from Sumner Township in Gratiot County were killed in a two-vehicle car crash Wednesday, according to the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office was dispatched to M-46 and Warner Road in Seville County at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

Upon arriving on scene, officers found two people dead in one of the vehicles, the sheriff’s office said, adding that they were identified as a 67-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, both of whom were from Sumner.

The driver of the other vehicle was a 61-year-old Riverdale man who was seriously injured, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Alma – formerly known as MyMichigan Medical Center Gratiot – for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows the Sumner woman was driving north on Warner Road and failed to stop at a stop sign on M-46, the sheriff’s office said. As a result, her car was hit broadside by the vehicle the Riverdale man was driving.

The sheriff’s office said it is believed the Riverdale man was driving at an excessive speed on M-46 before the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
