Wings Club Foundation Announces Carsten Spohr as 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient

NEW YORK, July 2, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wings Club Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Carsten Spohr, CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, will be this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award. In recognition of Mr. Spohr’s outstanding achievements in aviation, Wings Club Foundation will present the award on October 18, 2024, during the 82nd The annual awards gala will be held at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City.

Mr. Spohr has been Chairman and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since May 2014. He leads the Lufthansa Group with the business segments Network Airlines, Eurowings, Logistics and MRO with around 100,000 employees worldwide.

After graduating as an industrial engineer from the University of Karlsruhe, Mr. Spohr obtained a commercial pilot license at the Lufthansa flight school in Bremen and Phoenix. As a member of the central junior research group, he then completed the training program at Deutsche Aerospace AG, Munich.

In 1994, Mr. Spohr returned to Deutsche Lufthansa and initially took over the management of central personnel marketing. He then served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Management until he assumed responsibility for Lufthansa’s regional partnerships in Europe.

In 2000, Mr. Spohr was appointed Head of Alliance Management at Deutsche Lufthansa. In this role, he was responsible for the management and coordination of Lufthansa’s international cooperation partners, including Star Alliance and regional partners.

Mr. Spohr was subsequently appointed to the board of management of Lufthansa German Airlines in 2004. His responsibilities included hub management, cabin crew and personnel management.

In 2007, Mr. Spohr was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Lufthansa Cargo AG. Since January 2011, he has been a member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Chairman of the Board of Management of Lufthansa German Airlines.

Carsten Spohr holds a Lufthansa Captain’s License for the Airbus A320 Family. He is married and has two daughters.
