Marin investigators arrest fraud suspects in Vallejo

Marin County sheriff’s detectives have arrested two suspects in an identity theft investigation.

The case involved alleged crimes around southern Marin, Sheriff’s Sgt. said Adam Schermerhorn. One involved the purchase of a vehicle with a loan using stolen personal information, he said.

Detectives identified two suspects, followed them to a hotel room in Vallejo and conducted a search. They discovered stolen items such as mail, checks and card printers in the room, Schermerhorn said.

Travis James Penaluna, 35, of Vallejo was arrested on suspicion of crimes including burglary, auto theft, conspiracy, possession of a firearm as a felon and presenting fictitious checks. Penaluna also had a federal warrant for his arrest, Schermerhorn said.

Christina Rene Taylor, 40, of Vallejo was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, burglary, conspiracy, obtaining credit using the identity of another and other offenses. Taylor also had an arrest warrant for her release.

Both suspects remained in the Marin County Jail without bail Thursday.
