Nearly half (46%) of Indian IT and security professionals said all corporate data stored in the cloud is sensitive, according to a new report released on Wednesday. Cloud security spending now outpaces all other security spending categories, according to IT firm Thales.

It has been stated that around 37% of organizations have suffered a cloud data breach in India, out of which 14% have suffered in the last one year (2023).

Ashish Saraf, Vice President and Country Manager, Thales India, said, “The scalability and flexibility offered by the cloud is very attractive to organisations. It is no surprise that it is at the heart of their security strategies.”

He added, “As India continues to advance in digital technology and data sovereignty and privacy emerge as the top research concerns this year, it is essential to address these cloud security challenges now to ensure a secure and trusted future for all.”

The report surveyed nearly 3,000 IT and security professionals across 18 countries and 37 industries.

Further, the report states that cloud resources have emerged as the primary targets of cyberattacks, with cloud storage (30%), SaaS applications (30%) and cloud management infrastructure (28%) cited as the top attack categories in India.

Human error and misconfiguration continue to be the leading cause of data breaches (34%), followed by exploitation of previously unknown vulnerabilities (32%), exploitation of known vulnerabilities (21%) and failure to use multi-factor authentication (11%).
