Hatch Baby recalls 1 million AC adapters due to shock hazard

Hatch Baby is recalling nearly 1 million power adapters sold with its first-generation Rest sound machines because their plastic housing can detach, posing a shock hazard to users, the sleep device maker said in a notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

About 919,000 recalled products were sold nationwide, and more than 44,000 were sold in Canada, according to Hatch Baby, based in Palo Alto, Calif.

“The plastic casing surrounding the power adapter included with certain 1st generation Rest sound machines may detach when removing the adapter from the power outlet, leaving the power pins exposed and posing a shock hazard to consumers,” the company explained in the advisory.

The company has received 19 reports of the plastic casing surrounding the power adapter coming loose, including two reports of people suffering minor electric shock from the product made in China. The power adapters have the model number CYAP05 050100U.

Hatch no longer sources adapters from Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co., the company said in a separate notice.
