Disgraced teacher Rebecca Joynes was caught on CCTV buying a teenager a Gucci belt before taking him home to have sex on two occasions.

The student, then 15, went shopping with the 30-year-old at the Trafford Centre after telling his mother he was going to a friend’s house to play computer games.

CCTV footage from the store shows her smiling as the boy assesses the belt before she pays £350 using her card.

Separate CCTV footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows her driving the boy to her flat where they had sex twice – but she was surprised when the boy’s mother spotted a hickey on his neck.

On Thursday, Joynes was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after being found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with two boys; sleeping with one student before becoming pregnant by a second while on bail.

Sentencing the defendant, Judge Kate Cornell told him: “Your conduct was breathtakingly arrogant. You were an adult.

“You were the person in control, the person who should have known better and who the school, the boys and their parents should have entrusted with the responsibility of caring for their sons.

“Instead, you abused this position of trust and exploited this privileged role for your own sexual gratification.”

Joynes, who wept during sentencing, joined the Manchester school in 2018 as part of the Teach First teacher recruitment scheme after studying for a degree in sport and exercise science.

After a difficult breakup after nine years of relationship, she told a court hearing she was “flattered” by the attention she received from teenagers.

The first boy – the one she bought the Gucci belt for – got her number after she gave him all the digits except one, as a math problem-solving exercise, and he had to find the last digit.

They met on Snapchat and he sent her flirty texts, with the pair agreeing to meet in secret.

After their visit to the Trafford Centre and their sexual encounter at her Salford Quays flat, she told the boy: “No one needs to know.”

But the next day the boy’s mother noticed the bite mark on her son’s neck and by Monday morning rumours were flying, with the boy’s distraught mother storming into the school reception as the police were called.

Joynes was investigated by police, but that did not stop her from starting a relationship with the second boy, who came to spend a “date night” with a scratch card from Ann Summers about sexual activities at her house.

She gave birth to their son in early 2024, but the child was taken from her within 24 hours.

Outside court, Detective Constable Beth Alexander, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “It is clear from some of the public comments when Joynes was sentenced that there is still a lack of understanding when it comes to men and boys who are victims of sexual offences.

“They must have read comments saying that others were ‘jealous’ of them and that they should be ‘glad that a young female teacher is interested in them,’ and that rhetoric is very damaging and dangerous.

“Women can still be pedophiles; it’s not a term reserved for men. Men and boys can still be victims of sexual abuse.”
