Being disturbed during sex has been named as the most embarrassing situation possible, according to a new survey into Britons’ most embarrassing moments.

The researchers asked respondents which scenarios they would find most embarrassing, with 41% claiming that having an unexpected visitor during sex would be one of the most uncomfortable experiences imaginable.

But while two in five Brits are keen to avoid bad luck in bed, almost a fifth (18%) admit to having experienced this exact scenario themselves.

Farting in public is considered the second most embarrassing moment (19%), with up to a third of respondents admitting to having been caught farting (34%).

And one in six (16%) say having the door opened while using the toilet on a train would be one of their most embarrassing moments.

According to a survey of 2,053 adults by Paddy Power Games, mistakenly suggesting a woman is pregnant (13%) is another moment Britons would rather avoid.

However, almost one in ten people feel immune to embarrassment, with men (11%) more likely than women (7%) to avoid feeling embarrassed.

Rather than changing the past, many Britons are now embracing their darkest moments, with one in five (21%) saying they now enjoy telling their embarrassing story because it makes a good story.

But some Brits couldn’t shake their past if they tried, as they now have a lifelong nickname because of their unfortunate moment.

Londoners are particularly unforgiving: 16% say they have been given a nickname by friends and family, double the number in the Midlands (8%).

Some of the most embarrassing moments people have experienced include bumping into a glass door in public, getting pooped on by a bird, getting declined for a credit card, or accidentally saying “I love you” to someone they shouldn’t have.
