Prepare for the theatrical magic of “Matilda: The Musical”

WELLSBURG, W.Va. (WTRF) — If you believe in magic in a young girl’s heart, get ready to see her on stage at Brooke Hills Playhouse.

The long-running summer theatre group is set to perform a musical version of Roald Dahl’s story ‘Matilda’.

The opening night will feature a cast of two dozen players, telling the story of a student’s magical powers and the tricks she plays on those who hold her back.

Welcoming both children and adults, the theater is both a training ground for new actors and a Wellsburg tradition.

“The beauty of theater is that these little kids who come in and grow up and go to high school, it’s really a learning environment. They learn how to act, how to manage the stage, how to build sets. They see adults doing these things and they start to get interested in them.”

Emily Hores, director of the musical Matilda

The curtain rises on this hand-painted decor this weekend and next weekend.

The stage will become the Yellow Brick Road later this summer for a stage version of “The Wizard of Oz.”
