Häfele and Like Magic present a new hotel room concept

Furniture and equipment supplier Häfele and Like Magic, a guest experience platform, are producing a new multifunctional hotel room concept called “Work and Sleep” that allows hotel operators to transform guest rooms into offices, meeting rooms and other functional areas using digitally enabled furniture, furnishing solutions and specialist software.

Furniture and equipment supplier HÄFELE and guest experience platform Like Magic are developing a new concept for multifunctional hotel rooms. The “Work and Sleep” concept allows hoteliers to transform guest rooms into offices, meeting rooms and other functional spaces using digital furniture, furnishing solutions and specialist software.

Work and Sleep integrates a booking engine, guest platform, employee interface and monitoring tools into a single central hub, simplifying hotel management, the two companies said in a joint statement. It will combine Like Magic’s guest and employee experience platform with Häfele’s hardware systems, the statement said. The collaboration aims to introduce new revenue models by activating otherwise vacant rooms while reducing equipment costs.

“Our goal is to lead the way in innovation in the hotel industry with our forward-thinking concepts,” said Gregor Riekena, CEO of Häfele. “We are currently testing these new ideas at the ibis Styles hotel in Nagold, Germany, which is a valuable testing ground for our initiatives. This innovation not only allows us to gather essential insights and refine our concepts, but also demonstrates our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what modern hotels can offer. By continually evolving and improving our solutions, we aim to set new standards in guest experience and operational efficiency.”

According to a Häfele spokesperson, the system will also be available in the United States.

The work and sleep rooms allow for seamless reconfiguration at no additional cost, the release said. Electronic locking ensures that only overnight guests can access the built-in bed, while meeting tables remain accessible only to daytime guests who have reserved them. Other features include lighting technology that automatically adjusts to the room for overnight guests and flicker-free lighting for daytime video conferencing.

Hotel guests can use the Like Magic web app to access additional amenities independently, Häfele said. Guests can unlock a coffee machine cabinet with Häfele electronic locks and use a Like Magic smartphone key to access upgrades such as additional storage space, sports equipment and garment steamers.
