Leeds United must consider cashing in on signing ‘ill-fit’ Farke if foreign offer is worth it – Watch

Leeds United striker Joel Piroe is reportedly the subject of foreign interest this summer and the club could consider letting him leave.

Leeds have plenty on their plate this summer as they prepare for a second season in the Championship, and departures have dictated their moves so far.

Joe Rodon is the first to arrive, but he has arrived due to Archie Gray’s £40m departure from the club, with more departures on the horizon.

Joel Piroe subject of foreign interest, Leeds could sell striker

A report from the Daily Mail earlier this week revealed that in addition to Gray’s move to Tottenham, the club could part ways with a few other first-team players.

Forward Joel Piroe was on that list, as they wrote:

“Leeds have maintained they do not need to sell for profit and sustainability (PSR) reasons after selling Marc Roca to Real Betis and Charle Cresswell to Toulouse, but they must trim their budget ahead of next season.

“Rennes also want Glen Kamara and are expected to sell Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford or Joel Piroe due to interest from abroad.”

It remains to be seen whether those clubs will register an interest from abroad, but the Whites could have a decision to make on the Dutchman just 11 months after his £10.5million arrival from Swansea City.

If offers are good, Leeds should consider selling Piroe

What Piroe brings is a unique trait that has not been seen often at Elland Road in recent years, and that is the ability to score goals above all else.

He scored 22 and 19 goals in his two seasons at Swansea under Russell Martin, then arrived at a Leeds side where he was forced into roles that didn’t suit his style, but he still managed 14 league goals with a further three assists – and could have had more had he been the designated penalty taker.

However, there is a big elephant in the room regarding the fact that he simply does not fit in with the way Farke wants Leeds to play.

He is intelligent enough to know that he is not a gifted ball carrier like most of Leeds’ other forwards and moves the ball quicker than others, but he stands out in that sense, unable to cover ground as well in possession or when Leeds counter-press.

Piroe is unfortunately stuck between two roles at Leeds, he is not quite the number nine that Farke wants with his back to goal or to stretch the opposition defence, nor the deep-lying forward who can dictate from an attacking midfield position.

If the club receives an offer that allows them to break even or make a profit, it will have to be taken into account so that the German can find a replacement better suited to the setup.
